(Chortle) Muslim groups are urging a widespread protest at the BBC over a Have I Got News For You joke they say was Islamophobic.
On Friday’s edition, host Sharon Horgan said:
‘The Independent described the Dostoevsky metro station… as the Mecca for suicides. Not to be confused with the Mecca of suicide bombers – which is Mecca.’
The joke received a slightly uncomfortable reaction from the studio audience, and is now set to lead to a torrent of complaints to the BBC.
Campaign group The Muslim Public Affairs Committee said: ‘By making such a comment she is giving the message that the holiest site in Islam is the centre of all terrorism and that Islam is inherently linked with violence.
‘This offhand comment does nothing except reinforce the message that Islam has something within its fundamental beliefs that makes it a threat to civil society Allowing this comment to go unchecked justifies the statement and condones such demonisation, as the comment implicitly implies that all Muslims are terrorists and all terrorists are Muslims.’
It urged viewers to email the BBC demanding an apology; echoing an online campaign being propagated by individuals on Islamic forums and via Twitter.
Today, Horgan apologised if any offence was caused, saying the line was ironic – and said she had received threats from those who misunderstood that.
‘By making such a comment she is giving the message that the holiest site in Islam is the centre of all terrorism and that Islam is inherently linked with violence.”
Me thinks the Muslim Public Affairs Committee protests to much:
Qur’an:8:39Â “So fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief [non-Muslims]) and all submit to the religion of Allah alone (in the whole world).”
Qur’an:9:38Â “Believers, what is the matter with you, that when you are asked to go forth and fight in Allah’s Cause you cling to the earth? Do you prefer the life of this world to the Hereafter? Unless you go forth, He will afflict and punish you with a painful doom, and put others in your place.”
Qur’an:47:4Â “When you clash with the unbelieving Infidels in battle (fighting Jihad in Allah’s Cause), smite their necks until you overpower them, killing and wounding many of them. At length, when you have thoroughly subdued them, bind them firmly, making (them) captives. Thereafter either generosity or ransom (them based upon what benefits Islam) until the war lays down its burdens. Thus are you commanded by Allah to continue carrying out Jihad against the unbelieving infidels until they submit to Islam.”
For shame! How can one be a proper, faithful Muslim when one denies the words of Allah as written by Mohammed? Heh.

Muslims have no sense of humor, nor do they get it! All muslims are guilty as sin. There is no such thing as a moderate muslim, they’ve all been killed. The ones that are left are a pitiful excuse for human beings. Allowing themselves to be bullied by a bunch of thugs, they call imams.

Muslems are in a particularly excelent position to prove that they are the religin of peace. They must condem and remove from their own ranks the violent “radical jihadists” (probably about 15%) and keep their “own personal jihad” within their hearts, as expressed in their holy book, instead of taking it out on innocent civilians including their own people.

I think if Muslims were launching suicide bombing attacks we would have heard about it by know.
Why don’t they exert the same effort exhorting their muslim comrades when they make violent statements that they don’t believe in? Because they do not disagree, that is why!
I prefer to call these murdering terrorist by their real name, HOMICIDE BOMBERS! ALL of them are taught to hate and kill Jews and Americans by their mothers and fathers from their birth to the day they are offered up for the honor to kill innocent people while wearing the HOMICIDE VESTS!
Saudia Arabia rewards these mothers and fathers with large sums of money to present their sons and daughters to martyr themselves for Allah, who promises the murdering barbarians 72 virgins will meet them in paradise and live happily in a place filled with murderers and a never ending supply of virgins!

Au contraire my friend. lslam reinforces all negative stereotypes just by it’s very existence. Adding in Islam rage (death threats,murders,arson,violent riots) into the mix, makes for a very toxic stew.
Muslims do not express anger over such things because they are not true or as you put it “reinforces negative stereotypes.” But for the fact that they do not want the truth to be told and have a HUGE problem with the western idea of “free speech”.
