Memo to the Occupy Oakland MSM fan club: It took less than an hour to dig up this content.

Anarchist symbol --"OAKLAND, CA - NOVEMBER 02: Freshly silkscreened signs hang to dry **at the Occupy Oakland encampment during Occupy Oakland's general strike** on November 2, 2011 in Oakland, California. (Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)"

The anarchists – labeled by the media/police as the “Black Bloc” – are not part of the Occupy Oakland Protesters. CNN is falsely reporting that they are part of Occupy Oakland, which they are NOT. The anarchists are acting on their own and not at the direction, nor with the endorsement of Occupy Oakland. The behavior that they have engaged in including breaking windows, vandalizing buildings, turning over dumpsters, etc… is not endorsed or condoned by Occupy Oakland. Occupy Oakland protesters have stopped the anarchist’s destructive and malicious behavior at every turn and will continue to do so. The media is attempting to seize upon the behavior of this small group of individuals to detrimentally and erroneously effect the perception of the Occupy Movement and this needs to be addressed immediately. We will NOT let this false reporting be used in an attempt to end the movement. Oakland stand up and speak up!

Occupy Oakland General Strike Anti Capitalist march led by *roll eyes* "outside agitators" Black Bloc. As many non anarchists participated in destruction as not. When a group tried to split from anarchists, they were "met with apathy, plans--ABANDONED."

At 2pm the anti-capitalist march headed out. The march was led by a black bloc of most likely at least a hundred, mixed into a larger masked/militant contingent of another few hundred and probably around a thousand to two thousand people overall. Of course, the numbers fluctuated greatly during the march. It went back up to visit the banks, but several of the banks lost their windows. Whole Foods, perhaps in response to a reported threat from management to fire any worker who joined the strike, had its facade redecorated with paint.

Immediately after the property destruction began, the debate raged: was this okay? Did this represent “us”? The only violence I personally witnessed was perpetrated by people screaming “non-violence” who attempted to hurt people who had just defaced property, but it was clear that the march was of two minds. Still, when a group tried to split the march (“non-violent go this way, violent go that way”) they were met by apathy and abandoned their plans. What was fascinating to me, though, was I encountered at least as many non-masked participants who were enamored–or even participating–in the destruction than those who felt alienated or betrayed.

Occupy Vandals Not Fringe:

From The New York Times on down, every mainstream media outlet reporting on the Occupy Oakland Riots wants us to believe that the general strike was “orderly” and “peaceful” and that only a “belligerent fringe group” destroyed property and incited violence later in the night. But as The Oakland Tribune‘s live-blog of the protests shows, this is just plain false:

Milani, a camper who did not want to give a last name, spoke against apologizing to businesses. She said it wasn’t just outsiders committing vandalism.

The person I saw putting toilet paper up, they’re a facilitator at the general assembly. The person spray painting, they’re on the events committee.”

All of these mainstream outlets also failed to report that the night before the general strike, the Occupy Oakland General Assembly adopted a resolution in support of occupying abandoned/foreclosed buildings. The major violence Wednesday night didn’t start until protesters started doing just that.

……
Not surprisingly, the occupiers would rather the city just give them the money they are spending to preserve what semblance of law and order remains:

The police union has estimated the city’s costs in dealing with Occupy last week was more than $1 million, while Santana told The Chronicle this week that the police costs alone for part of last week totaled $700,000.

“I am appalled that the city has even considered using our meager tax dollars to harm poor and working-class people,” said Molly Bolt, 30, an Oakland resident who spoke to the council with her toddler in her arms. “A million dollars could have moved every single person in that occupation into a studio apartment.”

The crowd erupted into cheers.

Emphasis mine.
