(WSJ) –The 17-year-old son of a senior-ranking official with the union that represents New York City police officers has been charged in connection with a shooting in the Bronx last month, a law-enforcement official said Sunday.

Hameed Abdul Jabbar was arraigned in Bronx Criminal Court on Saturday on weapons and drug charges in connection with a Jan. 21 shooting that injured 22-year-old Alhassan Abdulfattaah. Mr. Abdul Jabbar was also expected to be charged with attempted murder, according to a person familiar with the matter.

He is the son of Mubarak Abdul Jabbar, one of two vice presidents with the Patrolman’s Benevolent Association, the union that represents the city’s active and retired officers. A PBA spokesman declined to comment.

A police search of Mr. Abdul Jabbar’s Co-op City apartment turned up two loaded guns and 27 small bags of marijuana, according to the criminal complaint. The guns included a .9 mm semi-automatic pistol that was recently reported stolen from Virginia and a 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun wrapped in a towel, according to the official. [...]

(NY Post) –Police had been investigating the younger Abdul Jabbar’s connection to a Jan. 21 shooting of a 22-year-old man who was blasted four times in the chest and stomach in front of 140 Elgar Place in Co-op City, near where he lives, sources said. The victim survived.

Abdul-Jabbar was released without bail after his weapons- and pot-possession arraignment Friday.

Interestingly enough, a billy club was also found among the other weapons, in the home he shared with his father.
