I got a call this morning from a Houston area parent perplexed by a requirement of his child in kindergarten [at Tipps Elementary School --Ed.] to memorize a song about President Obama for Black History month. Here, I read the “song” on the air — and give my interjections as I do. This has NOTHING to do with Black History month and everything to do with forcing our kids to worship Obama.

Mike Opelka at The Blaze reports:
Parental Outrage Forces Houston School To Drop Pro-Obama Chant
Nothing in the original memo mentioned that this was a preliminary selection. And the note also states that all kindergarteners will be required to learn it, not just those participating in the program.
……The Tipps Elementary principal’s office would not comment on the matter, directing all inquiries to the communications department at the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District.
Kelly Durham, the district’s assistant superintendent for communications, defended the song during a telephone interview with The Blaze last week, calling it “an instructional activity to honor Black History Month.” The kindergartners were supposed to perform it during an evening school program.

After receiving the lyrics, Pagliarulo sent the following email to Pam Redd, principal of Tipps Elementary School:Dear Principal Redd,
Hi there.. my name is Joe Pagliarulo.. I go by Joe Pags on the radio. I had a listener contact me today.. with the attached document. I’m confused. How exactly is holding this president up on high — indoctrinating little children to believe what YOU want them to believe about this president a good lesson for Black History Month.. What’s said in the document is nothing less that proselytizing YOUR feelings for the president. You can love him. You can vote for him. You can be proud that he’s the first Black president — which would be appropriate for this month’s program. But, you DO NOT get to tell the taxpayers who pay your salary that their kids have to genuflect to the alter you’ve clearly built to this president. I’d LOVE to have you on my show. I’d LOVE for you to explain to those who pay your salary why YOUR political beliefs are the ones THEIR kids have to get in lock-step with.

The video purportedly shows a dramatic and inspirational movie montage tribute to President Barack Obama displayed to the assembled children as part of the school’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration. Most of the school children appear to be less than inspired.

Graves declined to name any specific detractor, but said they were present and made his job more difficult.

Glenn Beck’s war on the Obama Initiative
A community activist’s attempt to inspire young people in New Haven has provoked the ire of America’s rightwing media
Beck, on his syndicated radio programme, pulled together that and several other audio clips, then launched into one of his signature monologues about “dictatorship”, “fascism” and “communism”. Drudge linked to the video using the headline “School kids chant: ‘I am an Obama scholar’…“, as though it were anything more than an attempt to inspire poor kids from a poor city to stay out of gangs and get an education. A less well-known reactionary named Scott Factor referred to the chant as “the scariest” part of the video, and wrote that it depicted Graves “making these kids recite a pledge to President Obama … you read that correctly”. (Well, no, actually.) A blog called Ironic Surrealism v3.0 called the video an example of “Dear Leader Obama education indoctrination“. The rightwing media-watch site NewsBusters.org said it was “a creepy chant“.
